Malaysia as a strategic Gateway to ASEAN - Strengthening Malaysia-Western Australia Energy and Oil & Gas Value Chain Partnerships
The Malaysia–Western Australia Energy and Oil and Gas Business Forum 2026 is organised by the Consulate General of Malaysia in Perth, in collaboration with the Australia Malaysia Business Chamber Western Australia (AMBCWA) and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Western Australia (CCIWA).
The event will be headlined by global Malaysian energy producer, Petronas, as well as a number of WA energy and critical mineral project developers.
The forum is envisaged as a focused platform bringing together government, industry and business stakeholders from Malaysia and Western Australia across the energy and oil and gas value chain, including the related resources, engineering, technology and services sectors.
The initiative seeks to promote Western Australian capabilities and connect WA companies with commercial, investment and partnership opportunities in Malaysia and the wider ASEAN market. At the same time, it will position Malaysia as an established energy and industrial hub and a strategic gateway for Western Australian companies seeking to expand their regional engagement.
The forum is particularly timely amid geopolitical uncertainty, disruptions to global energy trade and growing competition for investment, technology and resilient supply chains. These developments reinforce the value of stronger partnerships between trusted regional partners and the diversification of markets and supply chains.
Western Australia and Malaysia bring considerable and complementary strengths. Western Australia has significant capabilities in LNG, resources, engineering, project delivery, energy technologies and specialised services. Malaysia offers an established energy and industrial ecosystem, strong regional connectivity and a strategic platform for engagement with ASEAN.
These complementarities provide a strong basis for deeper cooperation in engineering and maintenance services, offshore and marine support, technology and digitalisation, logistics, supply-chain integration, project development, decarbonisation, carbon capture, utilisation and storage, and emerging energy solutions. Related opportunities in mining, resources technology and services may also be explored where relevant.
