Tasha Taylor, the youngest daughter of pioneering R&B and Stax artist, Johnnie Taylor, grew up in Dallas, Texas. She started traveling with her family on tour as a child, and was surrounded by legends in music. "I just remember being on stage A LOT!" Johnnie toured with The Jackson 5, Natalie Cole and Sister Sledge, Johnnie Guitar Watson, and over the years, so many other great artists.
After moving to LA, Tasha was hired to sing with Usher, and was hired as a featured artist, to sing on the road with Jim Belushi and Dan Aykroyd in their Blues Brothers Live. Tasha was signed to Warner Chappell, as a songwriter and to Epic Records for a solo deal in 2000. Her original music has been featured on “Men In Trees,” and "Lipstick Jungle". Soon after she was signed to Epic Records, and later signed to RUFF Records in Germany. Tasha was nominated by the Los Angeles Black Music awards, for Best Female R&B Performer, Best New Song, Best Blues Music Performer, Best Live Performer, and Entertainer Of The Year 2019. She won for Best Female R&B Performer, and Best Music Performer.
Tasha is an actor as well as a singer / songwriter and producer. She Co - Produced and played the role of Mavis Staples in the original Musical: SOUL, THE STAX MUSICAL at The Baltimore Center Stage, which broke all house attendance records for Center Stage. She was cast in the live stage production of UNCHAIN MY HEART, as Ray Charles primary female vocalist and girlfriend, Margie Hendricks. She has also appeared on stage in the role of Puck at the Geffen Theater production of Atlanta. Tasha has appeared in several TV shows; HOUSE, UGLY BETTY, THE WAYANS BROTHERS, FAMILY MATTERS and has been cast in many Independent Films and TV commercials as well. Tasha will appear as Laverne Baker, the 2nd woman inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame, after Aretha Franklin, in the upcoming Buddy Holly Movie, That'll Be The Day, to be directed by Mario Van Peebles. That role requires her to be a buffer between Buddy Holly and Chuck Berry on the first major integrated Rock and Roll bus tour.
Tasha currently has a residency with her live show, at Herb Alpert’s Vibrato in Bel Air California, with an amazing 5 piece band backing her up, and they are sold out for every show. Her next show at Vibrato is Friday, May 22. Attached is a short video from one of Tasha’s performances at Vibrato.
Tasha has just released her new album SOUL KITTY. Available now on all streaming platforms. SOUL KITTY is written, arranged, produced and mixed, by Tasha.
