Stephen Inglis is a Grammy-nominated virtuoso celebrated for his mastery of slack key guitar (kī hōʻalu), a traditional Hawaiian fingerstyle technique where strings are loosened to create open-chord tunings. His music is a unique fusion of deep cultural roots and creative experimentation, seamlessly blending traditional island sounds with folk, Americana, and rock influences. A protégé of the legendary Dennis Kamakahi, Inglis is recognized for his "dizzying fingerstyle technique" and soulful storytelling. Beyond traditional repertoire, he is known for inventive genre-crossing projects, such as reimagining classic rock in his albums Slackin’ on Dylan and Cut The Dead Some Slack, which applies slack key to the catalogs of Bob Dylan and the Grateful Dead. His cultural contributions are so significant that his award-winning collaboration album, Waimaka Helelei, is on permanent display at the Smithsonian Institution.
Young Maui Slack Key guitarist, Shem Kahawaii, and hula dancer Wainani Kealoha fill out the show with traditional songs, sometimes falsetto, and beautiful hula.
Great stories, sharing culture, and beautiful hula dancing.
