Event Description

What really happens in the vineyard? Take a deep dive into the decisions, science, history, and traditions that shape the grapes that ultimately become wine.

In this engaging class, we’ll explore what’s happening below the surface, above ground, and everything in between, including:

  • Soil: How does soil really work? Explore microbes, rock types, nutrients, and the cycles that keep vines healthy.

  • Vineyard health: What can growers do to maintain a healthy, thriving vineyard ecosystem?

  • Site selection: Why are vineyards planted where they are? The answer may surprise you.

  • Grape varieties: Which grapes thrive in which environments—and why?

  • Grafting: Why do we graft grapevines, and what are the ramifications?

  • Trellising & vine management: Discover how growers make critical decisions about training, trellising, and managing the vine.

  • The American impact: Learn how America changed European vineyards forever.

  • The AOC system: Explore the history and evolution of the French AOC system—with a little politics along the way!

  • Old World vs. New World: Is this distinction still meaningful, or is the wine world becoming more interconnected?

Whether you're a wine enthusiast or looking to deepen your wine knowledge, this class will give you a whole new appreciation for what goes into growing the grapes behind every bottle.
