GREGG ALLMAN: THE MUSIC OF MY SOUL

Gregg Allman was born December 8, 1947, in Nashville, Tennessee, and grew into one of rock 'n' roll's most soulful and distinctive voices. As co-founder, keyboardist, and vocalist of the Allman Brothers Band, he helped invent Southern rock, fusing blues, jazz, and country into a sound that reshaped American music. Over a five-decade career, Allman wrote and sang enduring standards including "Midnight Rider," "It's Not My Cross to Bear," "Dreams," and "Whipping Post," songs whose ache and grit still resonate with new generations. His honors include the Allman Brothers Band's 1995 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Recording Academy's Lifetime Achievement Award in 2012.

Gregg Allman: The Music Of My Soul, directed by GRAMMY® and Golden Globe Award winner James Keach, tells Allman's story in full — from a childhood shattered by his father's murder, to founding the Allman Brothers Band alongside his brother Duane, to the addiction that consumed him after Duane's death and the hard-won sobriety that let him later face his own mortality with clarity and grace. Built from rare archival footage, electric live performances, and one of Allman's last intimate interviews, the documentary has been called "the definitive documentary" on the singer-songwriter by Variety, and praised by Rolling Stone, Cameron Crowe, and Ultimate Classic Rock. Michael Lehman, Allman's longtime manager, produced the film alongside Keach and Alex Komisaruk of PCH Films.

Allman chronicled his own extraordinary life in his 2012 New York Times best-selling memoir, My Cross to Bear. He died of complications from liver cancer at his home in Savannah, Georgia, on May 17, 2017, leaving behind a catalog and legacy that continue to grow. Proceeds from screenings of the film benefit the Gregg Allman Scholarship Funds and local organizations dedicated to supporting live music, continuing the work of the scholarships Allman established at the University of Georgia, Syracuse University, and Belmont University to open doors for the next generation of musicians.
