EDWARD SAID: BETWEEN WORLDS

Edward Said: Between Worlds is a fascinating, all-archival portrait of the renowned Palestinian-American scholar Edward Said, told entirely in his own voice. Drawn from hundreds of hours of lectures, TV appearances, interviews, and debates, including his 1986 conversation with Salman Rushdie and his last major interview in 2002, the film weaves together Said's bold intellectual ideas and his personal story, and is grounded by verité scenes from his BBC documentary collaborations. Exile, a defining theme of his life, comes into vivid focus through never-before-seen 8mm home movies shot by Said's father, capturing his childhood in Palestine before the nakba, when 75% of Palestinians were driven from their homes in 1948, and his family's later years in Egypt, Lebanon, and the United States. Ultimately, the film asks audiences to question how we get to the truth and who has the right to tell their own story. Q&A with director Maiken Baird following the screening.
