Following the acclaim of All of Us Strangers, British director Andrew Haigh (45 Years, Weekend) adapts one of Colm Tóibín's most celebrated stories into an intimate, quietly profound, and expansive drama of family, longing, and resilience. 1951. High in Colorado's Rocky Mountains, amid a changing America, A Long Winter follows Mike (a terrific Fred Hechinger), a young man whose family's fragile bonds are tested as winter closes in. With his younger brother Tommy (Kit Connor) away serving in the Korean War, Mike watches as his mother, Louise (Caitríona Balfe), grows increasingly disillusioned with the isolated, suffocating life her husband, Lester (Ebon Moss-Bachrach), has created for their family. For years, she has struggled with alcoholism as a way of coping. When Louise disappears into the snow-covered wilderness, Mike is left to face the void she leaves behind. As neighbors band together against the unforgiving winter to search for Louise, Mike discovers that the path ahead stretches far beyond the mountains, leading him toward an unexpected reckoning.
