Mama Red & the Dark Blues

Soaked in sin, fuelled by gin and on their way to high tea with the devil, Mama Red & the Dark Blues have the sounds that soothe. Inspired by the storytelling darkness of Waits and Rollins, the rich, visceral madness of Lou Reed, the ballsy gospel-hearted R&B of Ruth Brown and Big Maybelle, the evolving spirit of the great Etta James, the rebellious rockin’ sounds of Brian Setzer and all the way back to the sweet standards of Billie and Ella, and the ladies of early blues. But there truly is not enough room on a page to cover all of the deeper influences on the Dark Blues – and their sound reflects their ever evolving interests and ever growing record collection.

Especially for the Playroom Mama Red, takes you on a little ride back to her bawdy days and throws in a little 'Harry's Shiraz Cabaret' teaser...but you'll only see it here and once only!
